Without greater efforts to heal the social and psychological wounds inflicted, revitalization of the North East of Nigeria will be hindered. We believe that supporting the recovery of the people must form the foundation of recovery of the region. The sheer scale of devastation caused by the insurgency has had severe ramifications on people’s mental wellbeing.
The Neem Foundation will provide focused psycho-social support and child-friendly spaces, as well as strengthen community support structures. Through research and capacity building we are identifying gaps in order to improve the standard of psycho-social care and widen access by training front line practitioners such as religious leaders and teachers as lay counsellors. We aim to become leaders in this field and are developing frameworks of care based on global best practices that also take the local context into account.
