The Community Dialogue Officer will be responsible for facilitating discussions between the parties in conflict with a view to help them reach a voluntary resolution to their dispute in a fair, timely, and cost-effective manner. The Dialogue Officer will guide and facilitate conversations with a vision to create a conducive environment for engagement. S/he needs to utilise problem solving skills and work collaboratively with the parties to help them reach mutually satisfying solutions.
Education/Qualification
- A Bachelors’ Degree in Sociology, Community/Rural Development, Political Science, Humanities or related fields.
- 2+ years of working experience in peacebuilding.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Moderate discussions while remaining impartial and not forcing the two parties to reach a settlement prematurely.
- Avoid a conflict of interest or an appearance of a conflict of interest during and after a mediation while maintaining confidentiality.
- Facilitate communication and ensure each party is fully heard during mediation.
- Work with the Programme Officer and submit reports on the progress of the mediation process.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience in working with rural communities and community groups
- Good interpersonal/mediation skills including excellent verbal and written skills
- Good organisational skills; ability to manage and prioritise tasks
- Strong facilitation skills

- Practical experience working with victims/ survivors of insurgency and/or working in a non-governmental organisations
